Body and touch unfold in public urban spaces
The dance performance “Hands on/off” was presented during CODA OSLO International Dance Festival 2019

When someone touches and is touched, anything can happen. The touch may last too long, come close to intimate zones, be too rough, come unexpectedly, break a social convention, or instantly shift the terms of a relationship.

The performance is relational — the dancers are influenced by their surroundings and by the audience’s reactions. The audience becomes a contributor to the artwork simply by being present — and the dancers must actively respond to this. A mutual unpredictability arises, something that can only occur in that specific moment. There are no neutral zones; everyone present acts and reacts. Hands on/off consists of performances that can never be repeated — only the moment itself matters.
